I'm sure I've missed something obvious (late-night shortsightedness
maybe) but I'm having trouble getting a checker pattern to map itself
onto a sphere in such a way as that it looks a bit like the lat/long
lines on a globe.

Can someone please give me a clue (or a bash if I'm being really
stupid and an RTFM would readily solve my problem...)
